fuel milage?
I recently spoke with a local guy about his '01 GT. We got a lot in common: Same shifter, same taste in exterior and interior, lot of the same mods. He said he normally got 250 to 260 mile from a tank of pump gas, and said he got 300 miles one time because he used more interstate miles one weekend. He commutes via high-traffic state highway daily to work. I travel 35 miles of strictly interstate daily in a V6 Mazda truck and barely get over 260 miles on a tank myself, and that's a 17 gallon tank. Has anyone got comparable milage or was that guy feeding me a line of crap? If what he said was true I've got some serious issues to take up with my car.I've got afew mods: CAI, 70mm throttle body, ported & polished intake plenum,tri-ax shifter and bassani mufflers. </P>

Well thanks a lot. You got any suggestions on how to track down this loss of eficiency? What's you're daily commute like? My wife drives mine daily stop-and-go trafficin a non-metropolis. Should I take this issue up with a dyno tuner, or am I overreacting? By the way, did I tell you I never saw better than 180 miles from a tank of gas. That's little to no change in milage from what I saw before any mods. Oh yeah, I forgat to mention a superchips flashmodule that hasn't been reprog'ed since the other mods. In addition, my last dyno run revealed high 10's on the air/fuel, and I've been advised to get that tomid 11's for maximum performance. Wouldyou agree with that?<edited><editID>silstang</editID><editDate>38032.8891319444</editDate></edited>

Umm so are we talking about a mustang or a mazda pick-up? I get about 260 on a tank, i squeeked it to 320 once on the highway. If it's the truck, i had a ranger with the 4.0 and it usually got 220 before i had to fill it. It wasn't modded and I ran 31 10.50s on it.

Check the original question, dude. That's why I specifically said I would have some serious issues with my CAR. I get less than 200 miles from a tank of gas in my mustang. That's a 15.7 gal. tank. That would give me less than 12.5 mpg. I got close to 18mpg on a trip to the beach one time. It's never been any better than that. Sorry if the question went awry.Well, I guess my question has been answered anyway. My gas mileage really sucks. And I'm still running with the factory 2.73 gears. I know that's one thing I won't be changin.

All depends how you drive. The bigger the engine, the more driving habits will affect your mileage. I can squeeze out 300 driving normally and keeping the rpm's between 1800-2500...but I normally drive more aggressive than that, equating tojust over200 miles per tank.

Instead of going "by the tank" go by milage. No way you can tell how much gas you have. For all you know, you have a screwy gas gauge. I have seen TONS of gauges on every make and model record wrong. ATM you might have 5 gallons left and think its empty. </P>
My 88 bird for example, goes SLOOOWWLLY from full to 3/4, then drops like a rock to 1/4, then slow again. Just reads wrong.</P>
Go fill it up. Hit your trip reset. Then drive till you fill again. Fill itALL THE WAY. To getmore accurate, try to fill it about the same both times (aka donttop it offone time and not the other). Divide the number of miles with the number of gallons. This will tell you exact MPG.</P>
For reference, I got about 20 MPG with mixed city/highway out of my GT when it was near stock (k&N and mufflers). </P>
