Default ? on transgo shift kit

Has anyone heard of the transgo shift kits causing your overdrive band to burn out? i purchased the kit but now im worried about installing it if there is a chance that i can do more damage to my tranny with it then without it. i know you can hold the gears to higher rpm's. anyone heard of this happening?

It very well could b/c the transgo kit will make the tranny put out more heat. It's pretty much necessary to buy a tranny cooler for it. I'd say with the extra cooler, you should have no problems.

yeah, when i bought my transgo shift kit I also purchased a B&M tranny cooler. It was only like $50 extra bucks from summit. But i definately recommend getting a tranny cooler if you are considering a shift kit!!

I totally love my shift kit!!!! I also have a trans cooler and use Royal Purple fluid. Defently get the cooler and run a goo brand of fluid. I have have the kit in my car for a little over a year now and no problems with it at all!!!!

I don't personally know about a 98 but I have an 03 and all I needed to do is increase the line presure with my tuner to increase the shift firmness. If you can do that don't bother with a shift kit at all.

1. If you get a shift kit get a tranny cooler too
2. Heat is the #1 killer of automatic trannys
3. Have a shop install it because if installed wrong it will destroy the gears
4. Yes a shift kit is worth it
5. Add a stall converter with that shift kit and it'll be even nastier
