I just bought my girlfriend a 97 mustang gt 4.6L, and i had a few questions about it. I dont know alot about mustangs, but she really loves them so i found one from a mechanic that seems in pretty good shape. It only has 69,000 miles and it has mod. H-pipes on it and no cats. the check engine light comes on, but the mechanic says it is just because he never put on ELI elitmators, and if i got them he would install them for me, and the check engine light would turn off after running it a little bit. The other thing is its an automactic ( I would have never bought an auto, but my GF dosnt know how to drive manual, and wanted an auto) and its seem alright, but when you step on it and it switches at an high rpm (like 5000) it makes a slight rubbing (or belt type squill). What could that be? Also if you guys could tell me anything else to watch out for on the car I would appreciate it.
another mustang girl here, welcome btw, as far as the o2 sensors, i never put eliminators on mine, never ever had any trouble just have to stare at the engine light. so no biggy i don't think
The MIL's are cheap and you could put them on yourself, honestly.
The squeaking noise, is it between 1st and 2nd?
Congratulations on your find, good miles
Enjoy
Cheers

The mils will run you about 60 bucks but worth it. I got BBK mils and theywere easy to put in. get her a tuner if she wants the shift points different. you said you bought it, i'd let her get used to driving it for awhile before you try to make it faster, you might come up short a car.
sounds like it is the tires chirpin thats all, I have that it sound slike the tranny but its the tires dont worry. mine does it when i let the gas go also going about 80
I'm not sure if there's enough power in that auto to make the tires chirp between 1st and 2nd. I'm lucky to chirp mine flooring it to 2nd before it shifts in my auto.
