Default 3rg gear grinding noise

dont know what it is, but i noticed the other day that i wass grinding going into 3rd gear fast.

It has never dont this before...

It only happens when i shift quickly to 3rd....wether i am up shifting or downshifting. And it grinds only part of the way...but once you've moved the shifted about 1/4 way into the gear it stops....AND THE CLUTCH WILL BE TO THE FLOOR...and it only does it when the car is moving....sitting still it goes in fine...

anyone know what that might be?

Did you check to see if your clutch is good?

sounds like a synchro to me. My 97 GT does that in 2nd and 3rd if I try to shift to quick, and the clutch is fine.

A simple test of the clutch is while parked, push clutch down, wait 5 seconds and then put transmission into reverse. Generally if you don't get a grind your clutch is fine.

I know we have different trannys but the same problems show up for the same reasons. That's why I have a synchro rebuild kit in my room that I'm starting on this friday!!!

BY THE WAY.... I have heard there may be a recall or TSB for that problem that you may be able to get fixed for free if you call ford asap!

+1

Both my t-45 started doing this before they shelled out. Take it easy into 3rd gear and you should be fine for quite some time

Syncros you say? I might want to have that checked before my warranty runs out...

I agree with the assessment of a synchro problem. I have an '03 and it was one of the years that had a recall for the synchros. I took mine to the dealer and they fixed it quickly and, more importantly, for free. Look in the recalls and TSB's section above and you will probably find the recall I am talking about.

THAT'S IT! That was the problem with his. His is doing it for the 2nd time now, but warranty covers it. Take it in ASAP!

Sry I couldn't remember what it was at the time, and he just joined the forums so IDK if he'd be on the list or not..
