Wanted: Sparkplug Wire Recommendations for my 97 Cobra 4.6 32 valve
Hello Everyone,
It is time to change the plugs and wires on my 1997 Cobra 4.6 32v. I have decided to use NGK plugs (narrowing down between TR55 V-power and TR55GP G-power plat.). But I don't know what wires to used. Does any one have recommendations on what to use? Or what not to use?
Thanks a ton!
~Erik

I dont think Bosh makes plug WIRES anyway.
I went with MSD 8.5 mm wires and coils packs.
I'm happy with that decision. I had one plug wire failing causing a miss under 1500 RPM when lugging the engine slightly.
It was more of a jerking/surging and at first I was not even sure it was a miss...
Searching on the forums led me to believe it was caused buy plugs. Swapped plugs and the problem went away for a while but came back.
Then I swapped coil packs and the problem went away for a while (again) but came back yet again and I ordered wires without even looking at the engine....
When I went to swap the wires, when iIgot to cyl #4 I realized it was unrelated to ignition this time.
Cracked intake leaking and shorting out a plug. But then you don't have a plastic intake on that Cobra da ya... you lucky..
If you go larger than 8.5 mm, you'll probably not be able to use the stock clips.

Yes they do make wires and plugs... Dont get either of them.
Anyways
For wires Taylor Wires are good. Never had any problems with them.

First off...
Stay away from Platnium Plugs if you want power. Copper plugs are best. Sure, you might have to change them every 10k miles, but they conduct better and give a better spark w/ more power.
Other than that, I would go with Screamin Demon coilpacks and Livewires. 9mm thick wires. I have yet to hear about one failing. Probably the best plug/pack combo I have heard of, hence why im going to be carrying it.

ok ... so coil packs, I never even thought about those. What benefit do I have for switching to coil packs out? Also what wire thickness would you recommend? Should the coil packs match the wires, brand wise? Thanks

Screamin Demons have to have Livewires as their spark plug wires, as the spark becomes much hotter.
The gap alone is widened to .065 with these coilpacks and wires. I think the size on the wires is 9 or 10 mm, they're pretty damn thick.

I simply went with the Ford Racing 9mm wires. They are great wires. You can buy them in either Ford blue or red. I chose the red just for a bit of a brighter color under the hood of my triple black '98 GT vert. They come all presized with the cylinder ID (1-8) and FR logo on each. Plus being 9mm, they are larger than most other wires out there. Good product.
As far as plugs are concerned, I went with the following new tech plug that, oh by the way, just happens to test out awesome with Cobras. These people went to a few drag strips and offered the Cobra owners free plugs and had their techs install them. Each Cobra owner then ran the best times they had ever posted. They have been tested and researched for seven years and carry a 100,000 miles/5 year warranty. Lots of good reading on this site, check it all out.
