Cleaning IAC NOW! simple question
99GT, simply cleaning my Idle Air Controller... got a small question
i undid to the two scres holding it to the thingy..(lol nice huh)
now, im looking, and there is only one small hole where i can see the spring,, is there somewhere else i am supposed to spray the carb cleaner, or is the picture showing the correct place
( note that i am referring to the second picture, where i can see the spring, that is where i spray it right? )
also, how much? just a tiny bit? or what?
any simple advice would be great
thanks

RE: Cleaning IAC NOW! simple question
okay, well, i finished it,
took me maybe 15-20 minutes after i got a reply from spro
i assumed it would have been more difficult, but it really wasnt and i got it done with little to no hassle
(only problem i had was getting the bottom screw to tighten because i had little to know room)
so i sprayed it in ther and started the car for the first time in 4+ months,,
to my amazment, it started almost immediately, the previous spring, it took several cranks
wonder if that has anything to do with it?
oh well, in all its a simple job

RE: Cleaning IAC NOW! simple question
I wouldn't think the IAC would effect start-up, I don't see how it would.
But anyways, very few people solve their idling issues by cleaning the IAC, it almost always requires replacement.
Sorry I never got back to your PM BTW Clint. I've been a little busy, I'm assuming you have gotten the answers you've needed?

It does, if its bad the engine will turn over then imediately die if you dont give it gas.. at one point it was really bad for me i would have to keep it running for 5 minutes before it would idle by itself. I've cleaned it out and havent had much trouble with it.

Yeah I'm aware of that, but he said the car would crank for a few before it started (If I'm understanding him correctly). A properly functioning IAC won't effect the amount of time it takes to actually start the car is what I'm saying.

RE: Cleaning IAC NOW! simple question
hey dan, no problem,, i havent really gotten an answer, but im prettty darn sure that the NGK tr55 copper tipped or whatever is whta i want
as for the whole IAC thing.
LAST summer, the car started fine, then died, with EVERY single symptom of the idle air controller
even the mech. guy i go to said it... but i never got around to it last summer
and i unwrapped the car yesterday and cleaned it today, (i figure why not clean it before it fails to idle again right?)
i was just thinking that maybe it had soemthing to do with starting right away after sitting for 4 months this year, when last year after sitting an equal time it took much more to start
just a thought
im pretty sure there isnt anything wrong with it, it'd been idling fine all summer up to the incident, and even after it was fine
as for the whole IAC thing.
