Coils rough RPMs and money and time

RE: Coils rough RPMs and money and time
Dude, find a good local parts store. Those boots are available separately, Standard ignition offers them. I learned about it at a seminar
I attended by Standard on Ford EEC V diagnostics. I bought a set of boots from my local parts store for my 5.4 Expedition, $24. It had the same problem you described, sure as hell, it had an arced out boot.

the 2001 does not have wires or coil-packs like your mustang or my 1996. The coils are near the plug. One for each cyl.
I don't know if the newer system increases efficiency but it may weigh less and can reduce missfire caused by old wires.

WOOOOOO WOOOO
My ride is running sweet again
1) took off all coils 2-coils had corrosision residue ..looked liek same stuff u get around battery terminals
2)Removed spark plugs....atleast 4 of them showed visable wear around the diode? the area where the spark hits ..not the piece u gap..the color ranged in dull grays
3) all boots with springs looked clean
Got new sparkys.....cleaned the corosion off with a small file..used that electric greas/corrosion preventor...
Put back together...runs smoooth
Costs $60 + 5-6 hours total of reading boards and wrenching
another classic Dealer repair...bastards replaced entire coil assembly last time..,,suspicious,,,whish i would have requested old coil back..that one cost me $150$ warranty covered the other 300$
