Actually fram isnt a piece of crap. In Fram's case the filter just works TOO well. It blocks out 98%. It does a great job of filtering however it filters too much and will give you lower oil pressure.

You can get purolator at advance auto. I'm sure other stores carry it also. The reason why the PureOne is the best is because it actually has a small valve in the filter.

Edit: It will last the same as any other oil filter. You should change it every oil change.

Stay away from Fram. I've had ZERO problems with Motorcraft filters. I use Valvoline SynPower oil.

Well, I'm a student but I also work at a local Advance Auto Parts. We have done a lot of looking into which oil filters are better. There are a lot of complaints about the fram filters, many people say the cartridge in them will fall apart blocking the flow of oil totally. This is an issue only in the cheaper filters though, the Tough Guard Fram’s seem to be good filters. A Purolator is a very good filter.. The Pure One has a check valve in it which supposedly keeps oil from running out of the engine when you shut it off, this is suppose to save you from dry starts. The Motorcraft filter is actually manufactured by Purolator. It has Pure One internals in a less flashy case.
Check this link out, lots of info:

I use Motorcraft filters and Mobil One 5W30 that’s just me though , I’d say K&N would be better but that’s just if you got the extra cash money to throw around.

There are many decent filters on the market today. The stock Motorcraft filter is actually rated very high itself. The Mobil 1 filter is probably very good but I went with the Purolator Pure One (which may very well make the Mobil 1 filter) due to its top rating in "multiple pass" oil filtration. Most all other filters rate solely on single, first pass filtration.....go figure. That is really a pretty **** poor way to rate something that will stay in your car for 3,000 miles. I also use Royal Purple synthetic 5w-30 which my car loves.

By the way, I have heard from many sources to stay away from Fram as their filters are not the best lately. Don't know the specific reason(s) but that is what I heard. As a matter of fact, I went to buy a Ford transmission filter the other day from my local Ford dealer and the parts counter guy during the course of conversation happened to also mention staying away from Fram filters. Again, don't really know why. Just thought I'd let you know.
