Default Traction Control saved my... Mustang

Normally I am not a big fan of traction control as it seems to kick in at the most inconvenient times. However, this morning at around 9:15am PST it saved my a**, here's how :

Driving 8-East Freeway in California headed towards work at a Casino out in "East County", I was driving in the most inclement of California conditions, medium rain, mostly mist kicked up by other cars. At 65mph people were passing me on the right frequently, there was a low volume of traffic so there wasn't anyone in front or behind me I could see through the rain mist. Suddenly, i hit a slick spot, deep water, oil, ice, I don't know, both rear tires kick free and slide, then the comforting green traction control light comes on and all is back to normal. Two seconds later I see a truck upside down on the left side, apparently a victim of the same slick spot I just survived, a car had pulled over and was assisting already so I called 911 and was told they already had a unit on the way. I thanked whatever Angel I had watching me as without traction control I definately would have been much worse off.<BR>

Anyway, just my story for the morning, another reason I love my Stang.

it's good in wet weather, but bad in dry weather because it makes the motor bog. I don't want to be trying to make a left turn across a busy street and have my motor bog down and get me t-boned all because I goosed the gas pedal a little too much.

I've had something very similar happen to me also. It's not a good feeling when the a$$end of your car starts to kick out at
60-70 mph. Traction control is a pretty good thing to have in the rain...especially at freeway speeds.

the only time my TC has saved me was in dry weather.

Tiny little pebbles or sand or something was on the road and i didnt see it. There was a SRT-4 ahead of me and i was just gonna try to catch up to it (really, it wasnt a place to race)

So as i was turning right i gave it a little gas and the *** end kicked out and i hear sliding, followed by an annoying little green light on my dash.

I got lucky i'll admit. But like during daily driving, i leave it on because i NEVER try to gun it across intersections, or anything like that.

hehe.... I think it would be cool to replace the switch with a "Go Baby Go" switch like the one on the GT500 in gone in 60 seconds. Be cool if you hit the go baby go switch and your car goes from captain safety to hell raising mode hehe... anyone ever seen that switch for sale anywhere?

I drove my GT all through last winter. TC is pretty helpful when the going gets REALLY slick. and the most surprising thing I noticed, was how OFTEN the TC light would light up. Meaning even times that I didn't even know my wheels were spinning, the TC caught it & stopped the spin.

Still I like that Ford was smart enough to put that override button on the console.

Ahh, thats why i tried to goose it a little and the engine kept cutting out on me.. I was like what the heck is going on! Lucky there was plenty of room.
