Got a problem need help bad
I got a T-45 tranny from a 1998 cobra and put it into my 1997 gt a few months ago, I put the right fluid into it or I hope I did ( Dextron III automatic transmission fluid) I was a little shaded out because it said AUTOMATIC transmission fluid, however everyone assured me that that was the right fluid, even the dealership. However when I have the car in 1st and 2nd gear going at any speed the tranny makes a grinding noise, the noise intensifies with more rpm and i know i put the right amount of fluid in. I know its not the pilot bearing b/c the noise is only in 1st and 2nd. It makes the noise both when my clutch is in and out. I have a steeda tri-ax shifter and I heard that short throw shifter can make a whinding noise or something, but I am pretty sure that the noise is from the 1st and 2nd gears. I was wondering if the noise is nothing serious and maybe I can just hear the transmission noises better b/c the new shifter does not isolate sound as well, or maybe i should use heavier oil. I am completely out of ideas right now, I know the tranmission cant be bad b/c it only has 4,000 miles on it. So if anybody has had a similar problem please help me out.

back when my car was running, damn 4 weeks ago, my t45 made winding noises. though this happed right after the engine swap in september in which the clutch was replaced with a spec stage 3. so ive been told my quardrant isnt cutting it for this clutch, but i also has some loose o2 sensors that made it sound like my tranny. i know that sounds stupid but if you did any other work you might have something loose, or your quadrant might be acting up. but other than that id say its the tranny, how many miles are on it?
Double check your stop settings on that shifter. Are the noises very soft or pronounced? If they are soft, it could be shifter adjustments. It took me a couple of shots on my 3650 to get consistent clearances, and I got subtle noises from the tranny when it wasn't right. Have a buddy shove the shifter forward in first, and measure the clearance between the shifter arm and bolt stop, it should be .010, do the same in 2nd gear, it should be the same. I finally got my son to hold my shifter in, I was holding and adjusting by myself and did not get good results.

hmm I just tried that, it didnt seem to work really, It makes slightly different noises depending on where the stop position on the shifter is, however the noise is still there, I am going to try different oil. I was thinking maybe the tranny needs some time to where in or something and I should be using slightly different weight oil. Anyway I am going to dump the oil and see if there are any pieces of metal in it.

Sounds like synchro's to me. Low mileage doesn't mean squat.
