Today i had like an eigth of a tank left.....i went to a baseball game got back and my gas gauge read 1/2 a tank then went down back to an eitgh after 8 miles or so......wtf
possibly , they do ****around a lil , as voltage changes and as the gauge warms up , least the old ones , there coils back there , also there an anti swish thing also ,
I had the same problem in my explorer. Took it to the dealer and they told me the float was bad also the censor was bad. So i had them replace with a hookup at the dealer. Fixed the problem right up. I would fill up the tank and the meter would read half full. I was lucky it didn't run out of gas on the highway since the meter was messed up. If i were you just check the censor and it should be fixed. Don't go as far as i did. The price for replacing the censor and float on my explorer with the hook up was 200 bucks. Real dealer price 800 bucks
