Default maf screen

Need some help here, I am in the middle of putting in a tunable inductions fenderwell CAI and the instructions are a bit hard to follow. It seems as if they are telling me to not use the screen that comes orginally equipped on the car right before the MAF. Has anyone removed this or kept this when installing their CAI. Any input or issues people have had would be appreciated. Thanks to all.

round file the screen you won't need it, if there is a leak between the MAF and the fender part some Silicone around the out side

Why is it not needed with the new system though? The new kit came with some sealant but still I do not understand why it is their from the factory and the new kits instructions specifically say not to use it!?

yeah many kits including TA, JLT, Steeda and K&N say leave it out. I say go without it, if your car stalls on you while running put it back in.

My JLT RAI instructions told me to remove the screen. I did, and haven't looked back. No problems at all. Don't worry about it. It will be alright! (unless you screw it up). The screen is simply a secondary safety precaution for debris. I'm sure it also does other things like stabilize the air as it flows past the MAF sensor or something, but bottom line, pretty much all RAI or CAI kits have the screen removed, so don't worry about it.

that screen is the biggest restriction in the stock intake. if you only removed that screen on a stock system, then bought a complete cai setup, you'd probably think you wasted money on the cai. a while back i saw a dyno page online that showed a solid 4rwhp gain with that screen gone on a stock car. its free horsepower, but ford put it there as a last line of defense. little rocks/crap getting inside...ugh.

i know, sounds hard to believe. i removed it and the silencer a few weeks after i got my car. it was the first "mod" i did, i was really happy with the change. i've heard people on this forum a while back who have had problems with idle if they had a cai that stuck the filter in the fender
