Getting a Mustang...
Are you limited to Mustangs? What's your goal with the car? Bang for your buck performance or just a cruiser to have fun with??
If you are looking for true bang for your buck, don't shy away from F-body cars. 98-02 LS1's are getting cheaper by the day. for $11,000 you could find yourself a 40/50/60,000 mile LS1 and have yourself one hell of a car stock.
But if you insist on a Mustang and want to go fast, you should consider a $3-6,000 dollar 96-98 Mustang and spend a ton of cash on the engine. You are behind the ball big time with any Mustang minus Cobra/Mach 1. Full exhaust + Gears will get you into the territory of stock Mach 1's & non s/c Cobra's, but you'll need a supercharger from there to see any more significant gains.

Talk about bringing back a thread from the dead! Anyways....
I found a Mustang in St. Louis not too far from here I am going to look at on Saturday. I am VERY likely going to buy it;
1999 GT Coupe, Blue, 66000 miles, cloth interior. 100% Stock.
I'm excited!
The first things I plan to do to it are probably add the newer GT hood scoops and side vents, or find something that's functional.
Now that I will have a car, I can pop open the hood and put my CAD experience to the test, and maybe make some of my own parts!

but you're not in new england, ebcause you're near st louis [:-]
but yeah, 99-02 mustangs should be within your price range.. or older cobras...
i can tell you, personally, though, that if i could go back in time a year (when i bought my 02 gt) i would have got something different.. either a 98-00 trans am with low mileage, a 92/93 trans am (and with the left over money done a lot of mods), a 5.0 fox mustang (and a lot of mods with the extra money), or i would have just got a little piece of crap car and saved my money, invested it in a few stocks / bonds / cds, and waited for the new challenger or a new cobra...
it's not that i don't like my 02 gt, i love it.. but it's too slow, and way too expensive to make fast. seems like a money pit to invest money into it, with very little return in 'fun factor'
They aren't THAT slow. That's why I considered one in the first place! [sm=outcold.gif]
Here's a picture of the 'stang...If I like it enough, I might just drive it back home this weekend...
