Default Can I use Synthetic Oil?

Hey,
I was told a while back that unless you go with synthetic oil when the car is new, that you shouldn't later as it will sling it. So I forgot about it and just went with the Castrol 5-30. After reading on here, I wondered if that was really true. If not, what is a preferred brands to stick with? Would this be a situation where a blend is preferrable?

Thanks much for the help!

Every used vehicle that i have had, i went with synthetic oil. Mileage has ranged anywhere from 20'000 to 60'000 miles and i havent had anytrouble at all. Mobile One is what i like.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but how often do you change the oil since you use synthetic now?

but the question at hand, that I also would like to know, can you go from regular to synthetic after many miles? Or should you stay with regular?

I'm goin valvoline max life regular soon (I think it's a blend)

I've always thought oil is oil, you just have different quality levels

I change it anywhere from 4000 to 5000 miles. Why?

Max life does'nt have a blend. They have a regular or a full synthetic.

you will get different answers, Man. Alot of people say no. Synthetic oil can sometimes worsen very small leaks because it is so good at cleaning deposits.

what I thought i'd do, is I have a case of max life regular. good for 2 changes. If igure I'll run that, then try the synthetic max life and see how it likes it
