Default LT Header Install

Okay, so I finally ordered the LT's tobay. BBK ceramic with o/r h-pipe. They are getting in next Thur. I can't wait. But anyway, I have got some good advce from a lot of you guys in installing them. Here are my plans, get a cherry picker (borrowing one fro a guy I know), supporting the motor, loosening the motor mounts and dropping the k-member. Here is my questions, since I have never done this before, I was looking underneath the car. Abviously, the motor mounts are right on the k-member (at least I hope they are or I am an idiot), but it looks like when I drop the k-member, All the front suspension will come off with it. Am I crazy and I just don't know what I am looking at or will I have to take off the entire front suspension when I drop the K? If so, when I put it back together, will I have to get an alignment afterwards because everything will have been taken off then put back on? Is their an easier way than what I am thinking? Please let me know if I am onthe right track or not. Thanks for all the input ahead of time.

you gotta take all the front springs out, the struts, and drop the steering rack. TOTAL PITA[:@]

the link above is basically step by step.

I recently did a similar install on my 98... I didn't have to drop the k-member... the only clearance issue i had was with the starter housing, but since you are pulling the engine, you shouldn't have that problem. I didn't pull my engine, instead all I did was jacked the car up high enough for me to lay under, then removed the motor mount nuts and jacked the motor up til it wouldn't go any further. This gave me enough room to coax the headers in. The passenger side needed a little more force to get in, but she went after about 20 minutes of frustration.
Another helpful hint: to get the top starter bolt, go in from the front of the engine with some long extensions on the socket you need. You should have a clear shot right to the bolt.

The whole job took me and a friend about 16 hours, but that was with very limited tools and even more limited lighting. I'd say next time it would only take us 4 hours at most to get the whole thing done.

Good luck... the sound of this setup is killer.

Congrats on the long tubes and mid pipe man. You and I will have the same exact exhaust in about a month. Where did you order them, and how much were they?? Good luck with the install, I know I'm not looking forward to it.

They are like $3 cheaper at RPM outlet, but RPM outlet only sell the o/r x-pipe. I assure you, you do not want the BBK o/r x-pipe it has this horrible rattling sound when it's revving. Trust me, it sounds like crap, and I have heard that only the BBK o/r x does this. I didn't want to do any fab work so I just went with the BBK h-pipe, usually a deeper sound with the h pipe but 1 or 2 less HP than x. Oh well, who cares about 1 or 2 HP when it sounds fu**ing awesome.
