Default 5 speed manual question

i just got a 2002 mustang gt and i have a question as far as the best way to accelerate on the highway. pretty sure it has stock gears. say if im going like 70mph on the highway which gear should i go into to accelerate real fast and which gear should i go into to accelerate moderately. i would experiment but i dont wanna mess anything up. thanks for any replies!

if youre already going 70mph, then I would say down to 4th for moderate acceleration and 3rd for the quickest...just when you downshift to 3rd at that speed, get on the gas as soon as you slip out the clutch or else you'll probably lock up the tires for a second and screechem from slowing down too fast

yep, i did this by experiment. See if you go an all out romp on your car through the gears, you go around 90+ in 3rd, so you can drop to it at 70.

cool thanks. it seems like the car is picky about where and how it wants to make power!

I know. My car has a "sweet zone" of around 3000-5000 rpm, above there it kinda fades. that's whatcha get with the NPI... I think the PI ones have a better top end...

w/e it moves.

when you downshift you push the gas pedal down and raise the RPMS so the clutch engages smoothly and you don't get any jolt. Gotta feel the car and practice it tho, but it's a good thing to know.
