Drivers race??? A stock cobra has almost 1/3 more hp than a stock GT. Drivers race, sure. Mario Andretti vs my grandmother. You'll get gains modding both cars, but youll get more bang for the buck modding the Cobra, it already has a better tranny and stronger motor and yes, it loves the SC.

stock 98 cobra = 305 HP at the crank

stock 99 GT = 260 hp at the crank

cobra > GT

okay, now that everyone has bashed the 99-04 GT's compared to the 96-98 Cobras, I would be interested in seeing some REAL 1/4 times.

I know that the cobra has much more potential, has more power stock, but ive seen times in the 13.9-14.0 range for a Cobra, while the 99-04's are 14.0-14.2

That (if anywhere near correct) is well within the margin of overcoming if its a fair driver in teh cobra and a better one in the GT.

im not saying i dont believe it, because logic and pure numbers point out that the cobra should walk it, but in a race, from a dig, how much faster is the Cobra (if at all) in the 1/4?

With excellent driving the GT can as much as do a 13.9. I know because my friend's brother hit a 13.9 in his '03 GT with nothing but the air silencer removed.

well, we know that it is POSSIBLE to hit a 13.9 with a 99-04 GT, its advertised 14.1, and it is common to see autos in the 14.2-14.3 stock

how does this corrolate to a 96-98 Cobra?

i could have sworn it was advertised at 14.0, so should we say its capable of a 13.8 stock? and its usually in the 14.0-14.1 range?

or am i way off??
i was under the impession that a 96-98 Cobra was a 14.0, 99-04GT was 14.1, and 99,01 Cobras ran a 13.9 or so

im more interested in just the sn Cobras and new edge GT's though,

anyone?

this is true. the cars have more hp, but i dunno, maybe the torque curve is different and they only make that at the highest rpm. also, the PIs are pretty torque-y for what they are with a shade over 300 ft lbs stock. not sure what the cobra has tho, so that might not matter. I have also seen right around 14 flat for both the cobra and the GT, but on the street wiht no finishline to reach maybe the cobra can pull away..... in fact, i would expect it to.

Driven to it's max potential on street tires & 100% stock, the 98 Cobra wins hands down, by .2-3 tenths.

Add some mods and the GT won't keep up with an equally modded 4v, no chance.

so taking that 100% max potential to the track,, you'd say 13.7's stock? while an equally driven GT can touch 13.9-13.8?

i've always wanted to race one,, (but seeing as how ive never street raced, i dont see it happening anytime soon) but if it ever does, a 96-98 Cobra would be near the top of the list along side an LT1
