If you are never gonna do LTs I would go with a X before doing the shorties. The X will make more power than the shorties, and be way easyer to install. If you think you might do LTs someday but are only holding off because of cost, just skip it untill you can afford em.
You are not going to see good results from the shorties compared to LTs or even a midpipe.
