Default 99 cobra recal

I'm wondering how I could tell what engine a 1999 cobra has.

I'm thinking about buying one but I just learned that in 99 they came with a bad engine and ford recalled the cars to get a new enine put in. Is there any way I can tell if a car has the pre-recal engine in it still? I'm tryign to buy a 99 cobra and don't want the weaker engine still in it.

Its not the engine.. Its the intake that was crap.. Not to mention a restrictive exhaust.. Ford replaced the intake and I belive thats it with the recall.. I'm not sure how you can find out but maybe run it up to a dealership and see if they can tell..

Noooooooooooo... I just woke up the wife (she wasn't happy) and asked her where my recall receipt was but she didn't know.. Its something like 'Cobra intake something something'

From my understanding it was the intake that was goofed up and coupled up w/ a restrictive exhaust that lead to the problem.. I researched it alot before getting my Cobra from the origional owner.. I think it was MM&FF that did an article and tested a stock (non recall) 99 Cobra and it produced the exact numbers Ford said it did from the beginning.. So, I think Ford fixed the problem before they sold the last 99.. IMO the earlier year Cobras had the problem and those were the ones that got the recall..

yea i just read an article.

the car was losing around 15 hp due to a problem with the intake manifold and exhaust system

im going to be upgraded the exhaust and intake anyways so i guess i dotn need to worry bout it

actually... they replaced the whole manifold wich is alot bigger then just the tb&plenum... i dont know anything about engines

so if i have a 99 cobra with the old intake manifold, how can i fix it? do i have to buy a new one myself or is there anyway i can still get ford to do it.

If the car got the recall you probably don't need to upgrade the intake.. The exhaust how ever needs to go.. If the car was a 1 owner maybe ask them too.. I'm sure they would remember a recall like that..

Found the receipt!
