Head warpage part 2...anyone familiar with
We pulled my 4.6 DOHC cobra engine this morning and yanked the heads off. We found all the pistons were very clean except one - just as one would expect with them having water burning in the cylinders. The gaskets did not show any blowouts like a typical gasket, perhaps they wouldnt due to their composition. Odd that almost all were clean tho...with the car having 50k miles.
On the heads between combustion chambers there is about 3 thousandths difference than the rest of the heads...this is with the cams still in the heads. Does anyone know what the specs are? Also...should I be concerned about warpage on the aluminum block as well? I think I found a good machine shop in Salt Lake City, as all of the shops in Idaho in a 100 mile radius of me have never worked on one of these before. The shop that pulled the engine does not even want to reassemble it...they are worried about getting everything right - which is great to hear afterwards when all the parts are scattered around the shop and the car outside. If anyone has ever gone through this I sure would appreciate hearing from you...and your experience. Oh..and if anyone is around the SLC area and knows of any resources please share them!
Thanks.
Heath
