Default Check Engine Light

Ok.. I bought my 96 Mustang GT Vert a while ago.. The check engine has always been on.. I mean.. There isn't anything wrong with the car.. The car runs fine or it seems to run fine.. I have heard several of you mention when the Check Engine light comes on it Retards the Timing and goes into dumbass/retard mode (limp mode) and I was curious to see without getting persay a SCT Xcalibrator 2 Tuner how I could see what is wrong or how to get rid of this light.. Could Autozone do this for me... Or should I just save my money and get a Tuner..

Default RE: Check Engine Light

Just because your engine light is on doesn't mean that your engine is running in (safe mode)
or that your timing is retarded or anything. Only if your problem consists of spark or ignition
or pcm or 0-2sensor malfunctions.
I bet you have a faulty sensor like your TPS "pedal position innacurate" wich would do nothing.
It's for the computers peace of mind for the most part, or an EVAP emissions code. Generally
an emissions code if your car still runs good. Could be cracked line or usually the purge canister
gets all gooked up and needs to be replaced.
I would go to the Auto Parts store and have them get the code. Start there.

Thanks a lot.. I didn't think it was running on Limp Mode because it still runs fine.. Thanks again for the info.. I'll run up to Auto Zone today and have them check it out.
