#1 check and make sure you have a spare tire and it is inflated, jack and lug wrench.
#2 check tire pressure.
#3 check all fluids.

Depending on how many miles are on your oil and how many miles you will drive, change the oil.

Check all tire pressure and all tires for objects before you leave

Check all fluids

Check brakes

Check belts (don't wanna blow a serpentine when you are a zillion miles from home)

Agreed... bring a cell phone and a car charger

Bring road maps if going into unknown areas

Bring a cooler (with that food and water) ; sandwiches and bottles of water, some fruit

Also agreed, definitely make sure plates are up to date (i've gotten screwed on this one)

Drive safe

Make sure my XM radio is working properly. Check all fluids, tire pressure, lights, wipers (double check these if it is raining). I then grab the ol' lady and go.
