hey guys, my car just started making a funny whirring noise from under the hood that rises with rpm's. it sort of sounds like the blower noise a cobra would make but a lower pitch, my first guess was the belt but it seems to come from the middle of the engine around the lower intake area.

i know it's hard to diagnose sounds over the internet, but does anyone have any suggestions?

My car sorta sounds supercharged too, around 2k+ rpms in 3rd it starts to make a quiet whining sound that gets a bit louder but nothing really crazy but i KNOW my car isnt s/c...for now anyways xP. I dont really worry about it, i think its sweet.

ive got 2 sounds, neither of them are sweet

the first was the throw out bearing while shifting, and somteims in nuetal and what not

ANNOYING and sicker than ****.

the second was the first 3 or so weeks i had my car out of storage, one of the pulleys was squeaking like a mother,, interstate travel was almost unbearable ON TOP OF my already loud exhaust, it drowed the exhaust out. it's gone though

mine comes and goes, it sounds like a power steering pump thats low on oil..... if you know what that sounds like. it just makes this whirrrrrrrrrrr sound but its not anything real loud, but i can hear it with my windows up.

yea i had a pully squeek that disappeared on it's own too

i know this might sound wierd but my car use to do the same thing and it was my factory radio head unit. It would rise with the rpm's which was wierd but it just stoped makin noise one day.

yes that does sound weird considering this noise is coming from under the hood the noise you heard was most likely from a bad ground or something so you get a buzz through the speakers that changes pitch with engine rpm

Could be the head unit, a few of my vehicles have done that. I think it has something to do with the interference from the ignition system. An electronic filter might help.

Also, some cold air kits will make quite a bit of noise (thats why Ford puts in those crazy intake silencers that most people remove and toss). My old 5.0 was really bad.
