Default valve stem seals?

Hey all~

I've decided to take a stab at doing my seals rather than a complete head swap to cure my oil burning problem. That's where 90$ of my burned oil is going [:@][:@]

I can get an adapter for each spark plug hole to hook the compressor to, and I can easily remove the valve cover gaskets, but I'm wondering what i need beyond that. I know i Need some special spacers for the valve springs and a spring compressor, is there a special one for the 4.6L 2V? I have a buddy with a compressor so all I gotta really do is buy a few tools and the gaskets/seals... and I can fix my oil use problem for now.

anyone WHO HAS DONE IT or has seen it done, let me know! thanks

haha! Well I will do some tests and ask some experts I know in my area, and take a stab at it myself and try to make a writeup to help anyone else! I figure in the next 2 months I will do this repair

Valve seats ( think that's what they're called) which I think what you're referring to as spacers...

Also, it may be cheaper to buy the whole upper cylinder gasket kit, which comes w/ Intake Mani, Exhaust Mani, T/B, valve seals/seats, and some more stuff.. Everything to do a rebuild of the top end of an engine is in there..

well... ford wants $106 for just the valve stem seals. I called autozone, and for a set of fel pro valve stem seals they want $20. So I think I'm just gonna get those and then buy the valve cover gaskets are $30, so like $50 ?? not too bad.

Just gotta get a compressor so I can pressurize the cylinders to keep the valves closed to remove the seals. And then I need to buy a few tools (valve spring compressor) and I can probably bang these out in an afternoon, and hopefully stop most of my burning oil.

how would you guys rate fel pro compared to original ford. I have been using fel pro and oem gaskets a long time and they both perform equally well from my experiences

I recommend the Ford seals. Also the Ford tool will save you alot of hassles. You need to have an air adapter made up and an air compressor. I used an old spark plug shell. Dont forget to bleed your lifters before reinstalling the rocker arms.
