Hi guy. I have a 1998 Gt, 5-speed. Steeda shifter, 2 inch drop, american thunder exhaust, x-pipe, 3.73 gears, k&n filter (stock intake tube) and Goodyear Eagle F-1's. One of my buddys just bought a 98 Z28, stock. As far as i know. I told him good job on the car, but i havent got the ***** to tell him im gonna whooop him. lol. I dont know. I know the Mustangs couldnt hold there own stock. But do you think i have what it takes??

No chance in hell. You don't even have enough mods to even hand with a 99+ GT. A 98 Z28 will leave you like a Corvette VS stock Civic.

No, you're in the low to mid 14 range. You're gonna need a head swap and a lot more goodies to run even with him. As it is right now, you're not gonna see anything but taillights, assuming he can drive halfway decent.

Edit, Dan beat me to it and said it the nasty way I was trying to avoid. Seeing as how he owns a Mustang, I think he has more of a right to insult them than I.

W/ a head swap you;d be running about 280 max. You have to catch up w/ 320! Why you bought a 98 Gt to run w/ F-bodies I have no idea... I got mine b/c I loved that sound, but not the extra $400 a year for the same year T/A....there'a reason they charge more...THEY'RE UBER FAST!

you should have went with a 99 and done all the bolt ons that you could... but a 98 and down... itll be hard to ever hang with a z28, unless you want to supercharge it

get some LT's, a PI head swap witha nice valve job and set of cams, and with a good tune you'll hit 300 rwhp. you'll be able to beat a stock LS-1 28 then, but not by much and it will require top notch driving.

on a 96-98 GT a fully built PI headswap with bolt ons will yield 300+. this is with slightly higher than 9:1 compression. the PI heads on a non pi motor raise compression slightly.

I raced a 2000 SS Camaro with a six speed tranny last night, and I saw nothing but tail lights. [&o] I have a 98GT with the Stage 1 PI heads and hot cams, inlet pipe, MAM, throttle body, Plenum, underdrives, 3.73 gears, shorty headers, H/pipe, and flows. Never underestimate the later SS and Z28 Camaros. I am going to have a Dyno and tune done to my car This coming thursday. It seems my rev limiter is kicking in around 6000, and my cam specs are rated to 6500. So I am still in my power band when the rev limiter is kicking in. [] Hopefully this tune will solve this problem, along with my car searching for its idle, and running rich. I figure with this tune and some good tires, I should be able to keep up with the 2000 SS, but I am not going to hold my breath. Come next year, NOS will be going on, and then the SS will see nothing but my tailights.

like you said, stage 1 heads. to hit that 300 rwhp, you'll need a stage II port job, a 5 angle valve job, and a killer set of street cams. with your setup, i'm guessing you dont have any porting or valve work done? with the tune, you should see at least 270 rwhp. and with good tires your good for low 13's on the track depending on suspension and your skills. if you can hit low 13's, that's stock LS-1 time zones. but from a roll, you may still have trouble.
