Tires for the Strip

Tires for the Strip
I'm picking up some cheap rims to throw on the back of my car for the track that I can mount some sort of drag tire on. The only time they will be on the car is to drive to the track and back so I am not to concerned about how many miles I get out of them. The rims are stock GT rims, 17 x 8 I believe, the light gray 5 spoke ones. The only brand I have really heard of are Mickey Thompson ET streets, any input would be great. Thanks.

it would be good to get a samller diameter rim that is also wider (maybe 15-16x10). then you could put a tire that has larger side walls like a wrinkle wall tire, and it is best to run low tire pressure as there will be more surface area contact.

You are going to hook up nicely with MT ET streets... They are by far the best drag radial out there.. I wouldn't worry about getting a smaller rim right now. 275/40 series will hook up like crazy.

hoosier DOT drag tire on a 15X10 rim will hook up better than any street tire. If you are going to put a tire on your car that will always be on the car than the drag radials are the way to go. but why limit yourself with a tire if you are planning on only running them on the strip. the hoosier would be able to handle a crap load of hp/tq. so you can have them no matter what you add on your car.
but the street tires would be fine for the power your car is making.
