Default Mach 1 problems

ok i got 2 questions for my buddy on his 04 mach 1, number 1, the tranny is grinding going into third, and can be hard to to get into gear as well. i said it was most likely the synchro due to the fact that the machs have the same T-3650 POS as the GTs, am i right on that or could it be something else? number 2, there is some weird clunking noise coming from what seems like the drivers side rear end or atleast the rear somewhere that just majically appeared one day during a snow storm (yes it is his DD), i have no clue what this is so does anyone know?

you are correct on the tranny....most likely synchros and there a TSB that covers it. If its still under warrenty it will be covered also.

no idea on the clunking noise, but it you have aftermarket exhaust check for it hitting the control arms. My catback hits the driver's side upper control arm once in a while with a nice clunk

oh i never thought of the exhaust, that could be it he has an SLP system on it, and is there a way to help the tranny out, he does drive it VERY HARD. as in both sets of 40k mile tires (front and rear) were bald in about 10

well he'd better be running the best fluid in the trans possible, like a synthetic.... but it seems like he already did his damage

the clunking could easily be the exhaust

hey does anyone know the T45s suck too???

From what i understand, on these stock manual trans's the synchros are really weak. I studied mine and 1st and 2nd gear have awesome double friction surface synchros, and then 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse all have these cheapo single friction surface synchros.

I put all new synchros in and rebuilt it to a T and it still sucks. At least i don't grind gears anymore

T-45 < TR-3650 < T-56 < TR-6060 At least for the transmissions in the stock stangs...

Is the clunk coming from the rear? It could also be the sloppy mounts for his transmission... I know mine will clunk if I don't ease out the clutch, if I let it out in anything less than 3-4 seconds it will clunk, audible outside the car to following vehicles. The last owner of my stang really beat on it, all 4 factory tires were bald at 7500 miles... so if your buddy beats on his mach this is possible too.

well as he says he "drives it like it was ment to be driven"[8D] and it is coming from the rear and it happens when it hits a bump

Which mustang has a TR-6060? I have never even heard of this transmission.
