Default What RPM do Blowers start to kick in?

So the question here is when do superchargers start to kick in? When do you start to feel it? Is it at 3500 RPM? 4200 RPM? I realize the difference between roots/twin screw and centrifugal blowers but it seems like the most popular ones are the centrifugal blowers. Please, I really want to know before I invest a lot of money in one. Thanks

Centrifugal are said to kick in a little later. I dont have one so I cant be sure on when. Roots are supposed to kick in right away.

depends on which u buy, vortech and other centrifugals are supposed to kick in a lot later than say a kenne bell, the kenne's are supposed to make boost as low as like 1800 or something i think, also depends on size and what car.

a kenne bell will make a ton of power down low where as a vortech/procharger won't build full boost till around 3k RPMs

So if a Kenne Bell will build boost at lower RPMs does that hurt your MPG? But then again, if you can afford a KB I guess you're not worried to much about MPG.

Hells yes. It will definetly affect your MPG. Throttle + low-end Boost = Less gas-milage.

know that even with my centrifugal blower I am still making more power right around 2800 RPM now than I was at any point in the power band before.

Great!! That's just what I wanted to know! Because I don't want to invest a lot of money into a blower and have it only put out something around 4200RPM. What's the use in that?

my vortech seems to kick from 3-5 grand, more the higher it gets. i havent redlined it or anything yet, but at lower rpms the throttle response is quicker and its still notticeably faster. i love how i dont melt my tires with it, id go with a centri for a daily driver.

Hey Stever...
The only experience I have with hairdryers was a Roots style 300 cfm Sebring that I had on a 1.8l MX-5. It didn't have the "turbo" lag of the centrifugal types, which I liked. It really felt like a v-8...a continuous powerband, if you will. I am assuming that it would be the same feeling on the V-8s. If you can afford it, I'de spring for a Roots. But, hell, ANY blower would rock!
BTW, I beat the hell out of it b-4 and after the supercharger. I got 30 MPG no matter what I did. Someone with one on a Stang could prolly let you know how it affects their MPG.
Good luck,
Troy
