Default 96-98 Cobra or 99-01 GT

Currently I am driving a lifted Jeep that has the speed of a bicycle. I want something fast and different. That's why I turned to a Ford Mustang. From what I've researched and what I've seen in my price range (under $10,000) it seems that either a 96-98 SVT Cobra or 99-01 GT. What is the difference between these two models? Anything I should look at before purchasing? Any info you have will help. Thanks.

u could prolly find a newer than 01gt for 10k.... really depends on the mileage of the stang you wanna purchase... be skeptical with cars that are already heavily modded... u know that those cars have be beaten down quite badly... i would definitely go for the newest car like 99+ but thats just my two cents...

What does the newer (99+) have over the older (96-98) Mustangs? Also what is the most amount of miles I should get? I wouldn't get one that has been modded because I want to do that myself.

the 96-98 cobras have 305 hp vs the 260 of the 99+gt, they have a 4v motor rather than the 2v

Performance wise, the cobra is the better choice... but looks wise i like the 99+ look... I wouldnt mind a Cobra....

the 4 valve will respond to mods a little better. if your a fan of the older 4.6 looks like I am, I'd go for the cobra, as long as it has low mileage

get a GT and shut the cobras up... nothing against them but it's always nice to see a GT outrace a Cobra... cuz we all know cobras are pretty fast :P having a "sleeper" stang is always positive at least for me it is

If you were willing to spend more money, I would defanitely say get the cobra. For 10 grand you'll only be able to afford a high mileage cobra. I myself almost bought a white 97 cobra with 55k on the clock for 12,500. But for 10grand you can't beat the price and mileage of a 99-01 gt. Get the gt.
