when my u-joint went out, I had distinct clunking noise from the rear when I let the clutch out, and when i let off the gas real fast. And when I got up above 50 MPH it would vibrate like CRAZY. Plus I had a clicking noise from under the car, sounded like the tranny, but when I replaced the u-joints it cleared right up. Best thing that helped me diagnose the problem was to jack the car up and see if there was any play in the driveshaft, mine were really bad, so I had ALOT of play in it.

Ill jack it up and see if it has play and lube it up. I wander if its the differential going out.

seriously, drop the drive shaft (4 bolts) and take it out and move all the U joints.

Mine made the exact same noise but from the front U joint, turned out that one of the bearings was dried/ruste dout and grinding...

got two new u joints and my buddy pressed them in for me

but yeah drop the shaft and check them

Cool, Im going to drop it. I hope thats what it is. Is it hard to drop and change? Should i replace them with stronger ones or just cheap auto part store brand.

it's 4 bolts where it hooks to the diff. get the heavy duty ones. I got the 'brute force' ones from autozone... $15 each but they'll take a beating... the regulars are $11 each so it's worth the $8

You will need a press to do them. I'd reccomend finding a friend who has a press ,or if not take the drive shaft to a shop and have them do it for you, it'll probably be cheaper than bringing in the car

un bolt the shaft from the diff then pull out of trans... treat the trans end with care!!! it's a machined surface

if I recall correctly, it requires a 12mm TWELVE POINT socket or wrench to remove the bolts from the diff end of the drive shaft

yep... let me know once you drop the drive shaft if any of the u joints make any noise. Just twist each one in each way it goes and see if any have slop or make noise or are difficult to move
