saleen question
i have a question. the 99-04 mustang body style saleen s281 mustangs are they supercharged or no. the reason i asked is b/c today on i-4 my dad and i were driving around and a conv. saleen pulled next to us. we slowed right down and went from a 2nd gear roll and we started to pull on him right away. we got up to about 100 and we were a car lenght ahead of him. on the drivers side headlight it had a number. i believe it was a real saleen, but i could be wrong.

RE: saleen question
Some were s/c'd, some weren't. There are some fairly slow stock Saleens out there putting out around 285 hp. But there are fast ones, as well. Racing a Saleen is (forest gump quote a lot like a box of Chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.

RE: saleen question
A way to tell in the more recent Saleens (01-04) is that if it has a stock GT hood (with hoodscoop) its usually N/A. But if it has the heat extractor hood (like 03/04 cobra) its usually supercharged. Obviously there will be exceptions to the rule, but thats just a general rule of thumb.

i thought the S-281 was NA and the E was the supercharged? and the base is just a body kit, suspention and a few small bolt ons, and they still started off as a V-6

As far as I know all the 99-06 start as a V8 now the roush 99-04 some of them started as a v6 (stage 1 if I am correct)
05-06 saleen n/a are a body kit, exhaust, gears are diffrent--there actually 3.73 in the 06 saleen n/a and there tune is a little different. The 06 saleen has 30more hp and more tq than the gT and like I said the saleen n/a 2006 had 3.73 gears

The "odds" might be better, but as you mentioned, LOTS of exceptions.
Try this - If you see a "Supercharged" emblem on the trunklid, it is. If he sees YOUR trunklid, it wasn't!
S-281SC = Supercharged (Series IV)
