HOLD UP

I dont get it you can easily make 550 horses safely with an gt and i thought you had a cobra. The reason i say this is because before when i was researching superchargers to buy for my car and I picked procharger like you. We also had a post on this site about the chargers. From mm&ff and they said their 01 gt has 541 rwhp on the stock block with p&p heads and a billet intake. BUT A STOCK BOTTOM END so why are you worried about 450 ntm its been driven now for 40k miles daily driver no problem

and heres the link for the win!!!

Wait till i get mine inOO SNAP!!! Happy boosting!

I didn't get a chance to read that whole thread.. It looked pretty long..

However, here is the link of the guy blowing up his 99 Cobra w/ 600 HP.. Now I'm not sure if thats 600 HP or 600 WHP but put a rod threw the block..

I know the 99-01 Cobra don't have forged rods and the pistons arn't the best either.. The heads, crank and block are great though..

Any how, this is what I DON'T want..

People often ask how long their stock short-block will last with a blower. To them, we point out our "Ice Box" '01 Mustang GT project car. It's had a Vortech SQ on it virtually since it was new. Thanks to a ported set of stock heads, Comp cams and a ported Bullitt intake, it now makes 542 rwhp and runs 11.2 at 126 on pump gas. It is driven daily year round on 93- or 94-octane fuel and has eclipsed 40,000 trouble-free miles on the untouched factory short-block.

Much of the credit has to go to its conservative JDM Engineering tune up. When tuning the car, JDM proprietor Jim D'Amore told us he could make more horsepower, but didn't feel comfortable going higher with the factory rods.

In other words, common sense should prevail. Always run good gas, keep a check on fuel pressure and timing and remember there's a time and a place to hold the gas to the floor.

There is the part i want you to read ntm he had 600 horses through a stock block NO WONDER WHY!!!! thats 60 horses less than the cobra which is quite a bit and we dont know WHAT kinda tune job he had.

Yeah, I read about this too, but its utter BS. Plenty of people have tried to make more than about 440 at the tires, even with awsome tunes, and it goes boom. One chance in a million you will make 540 on a accurate dynojet and have the shortblock live. In fact, I am pretty confident in saying it is just total bs. The stock cast rods/pistons/crank just arn't strong enough. Hell, most of the aftermarket companys selling shortblocks with girdels and forged pistons/rods with a cast crank only recommend 550 or so.

That goes double for a stock heads/intake/camshafts car. You would have to be making major boost numbers to run that high (16~ psi I am guessing at least) at least on a stock h/c/i car. The factory shortblock isn't gonna hold up.

Just remeber that MM&FF doesn't care if the engine blows, cause that just means they get a new engine. And take a grain of salt with everything you read in any magazine. I am sure if you call up any reputable shop and ask em if you can make over about 450 WHP on your stock engine GT they are gonna say no.

Edit: Congrats on your purchase btw. Make sure you get a good custom tune and I am sure you will be extremly happy with 450~ WHP.

Most of the a/f gauges that don't cost 450+ bucks just for the gauge are nothing but light shows.
