Default RE: loss of hp from x-pipe

Did he dyno it or just going by feel? Did you perhaps loose a bolt when putting on said exhaust? Could said bolt be under the gas pedal?

Strange I have heard flowmasters have caused powerloss before. Hmmmm...I wonder if it really is true.

Loss of backpressure can = loss of torque, but it's usually very minor and you still will pull harder throughout your rpm band.

I know that LT. But the fact of the matter is he said HP. But didn't state if it was dynoed or seat of the pants.

God I hope not seat of the pants. But, if he were to say it would stop an argument before it got crazy! LOL

Well after I got mine put on it felt like it was going to rip the engine out of the hood. Really did feel stronger. Did he do the fulll exhaust... I mean did he go with headers then to the Xpipe or is he running stock exhaust manifold?

He didn't lose HP. His torque/hp just moved higher up in the RPM band.

Or he did loose it because he didn't torque the flanges down properly, and has an exhaust leak.

ORIGINAL: DILOstang01

my friend has an 04' GT and put on a flowmaster exhaust and bassani x-pipe and loss HP does anyone know why?
Something to consider is that the flowmasters only give about two more horsepower over the stock cat-back, & the X-pipe does produce less ft/lbs as compared to an aftermarket h-pipe (not sure about the standard), & like Dan said the HP is made in the upper part of the rev range. He may have lost a little torque w/the x-pipe, & those Flowmasters are helping him gain anything either.

Good points!

Certainly the Flowmasters aren't helping much, but the x-pipe alone will add torque and hp to his application. I'm more than willing to bet the addition of his x-pipe just moved his HP & TQ higher in his RPM band.
