anyone from IL... emissions testing
I was looking through some information online regarding how testing is changing for IL... and it appears for OBD2 vehicles like mine, they just plug it in and check for codes. It also says they may even have some 'express' lanes at the testing centers for OBD2 only...
My question is, if I get an O/R H pipe with MIL eliminators or a tuner, will I fail the test? There is no where stated a visual inspection, and in theory if I am gentle on the car in there and don't get on the gas they won't know there aren't any cats... and my car is lowered, so it's even a bigger pita to see anything under there too.
What do they look for with the scan test? Do they simply see if there are any trouble codes, and if not, you're good to go?
This would lead me to think that the MIL eliminators or the tuner making the computer think the back 02s are fine would cause it to throw no codes...
Just wondering because maybe I can get my O/R pipe after all

well, ask to talk to whitey. or call a different one. or get a translater.
I think a lot of stealerships do emissions testing as well. I know the HUGE one near me does. or google "illinois emission testing procedures" [&:]

i did, and there is nothing about a visual inspection
it says 96 and newer get the OBD2
what I want to know, is will having a tuner or MIL elminators show up as a problem, or will them causing no codes put me in the clear?

I'm from Illinois myself, and awaiting for that notice to come in to go for emissions. Best thing you can do is go get the car tested and see what happens. I have failed emissions before with another stang I had that had the cats on it. They dont fine you or penalize you in any way. You get like three chances to get it fixed. If it fails with an O/R H and a tuner you will know, but if it passes, your in the clear. More then likely it will pass. I know its a PITA but unless someone knows for sure, your best bet is to try it.
