Default please help me here!!!!!!!!!

hey guys i am going to the track for the 1st time tommrow. i have an 03 GT 4r70W with flowmaster AT catback and a k&n drop in filter. my tires are pretty crappy right now, not much tread left on them. now i plan on turning the traction control off, and the OD off. now my buddy is making a big deal about racing me. hes got some $hitty *** tercell that he did a motor swap and a whole bunch of stuff to it with a turbo and stuff, no joke he put like 8 grand into a 1 thousand dollar car. hes making a big deal about racing me and he thinks he will beat me, i dont really know right now its actually pretty quick, but i want to make sure i beat him because hes kind of an idiot about these kind of things. anyone got any tips for going to the track. give me some advise on how to launch and stuff...also do i just hit the gas and hold it to the floor the whole time or is there any trick to this..thanks

all i can say is try not to get nervous....nervous=1st and 2nd burnout while your friend is laughing at you down the track.
and other is just be aware that first time to the track is always rough but concentrate on you launch. your car will do the rest.

That is a great link. It will get you the basics of what you need to know. As far as launching I drive a stick so it is a little different for me. Clean your tires off like the said to, just a quick couple of turns of the tire. If you are stock, looks like you are mostly I would probably let the car idle and nail the gas when the light goes green. I would only go a little over 3/4 throttle to prevent spin. DO NOT wait until the light turns green to go. I usually go on the second amber light up. By the time the light turns green, you react to it, your car reacts to you, the green light is already on. REMEMBER reaction times don't really matter that much they do not effect you ET.

Overall have some fun. You will most likely run in the mid to high 14's seeing as it is your first time.

Yeah, he's right about launching. Launch on the very last amber light. So watch some runs and get the timing down a bit before you actually run. By the time your cars suspension has loaded, the light will be green and you'll be rollin' and hopefully not smoking.
