RE: I missed 3rd
I think everone misses a gear and bounces of the limiter at least once,I know I have with every car ive ever owned with a stick, thats what its there for.Back in the 60s they didnt have rev limiters and if you missed a gear your engine was pretty much screwed.

I know that I will not run another tri ax ever again after shifting with the hurst. And the hurst is far from the best aftermarket shifter out there.
I consider myself a fairly decent driver, but it was EASY to miss 3rd with the tri ax on the T45. I really have to be trying to miss 3rd now, I think I have done it a grand total of twice and both times were my fault.

I've only missed 3rd twice, but I mis-downshifted about 4 times (when learning how to slow the car down without using the brakes). The worst was from 5th to 2nd. It wasn't pretty.

Have you ever used the MGW? I'd like to see an unbiased comparison between the Hurst and MGW

I cannot say for 100 percent sure that it is all in the shifter and not just the TKO shifting better (gotta be partyly the TKO) but the hurst just has 100X better feel to it than my old triax on the 45.

RE: I missed 3rd
any reccomendations for me? I have a recently rebuilt stocker T45 with a goofy 3rd gear (I think the stock shifter is getting really loose)
I'm looking into MGW but I'm wondering if there are any for less $ that do an equally good job... how much is the hurst?

Regardless of the shifter, it is simply not a good idea to speed or powershift a stock transmission GT. Hell, I refuse to powershift my 1700 dollar TKO.
The 45 is espcially weak. I can gaurentee you that if you powershift or even speedshift a T-45 often enough into 3rd gear, you WILL be replacing/rebuilding the transmission, and it is a WHOLE lot of NO fun to spend a boatload of money on your car that doesn't make it any faster in the end.

I miss 3rd on my tri-ax more and more often but I really do think it is me not the shifter. It made it alot better then stock but if you do it wrong you will hit the gate missing third and lose a race. After my previous problems I drove around and practiced my shift and it was just a matter of pushing it forward and not trying to move it to the right.

The MGW springs are really stiff and it is almost impossible to miss third unless you mess up using the clutch. In order for you to go into reveres on a cold day after the car has been sitting, you have to go through all of the gears including fifth in order to get into reverse because it wont let you in at all. After the car is warm or on a hot day it is easier. The MGW has 2 parts. There is the arm and the base which bolts onto your trany. There is no rubber gasket or bumper between the two pieces like the triax so the shifter shakes more and makes noise on the freeway in 5th gear. Personally I don’t like my friends triax and I think the MGW needs to be refined. I have had my MGW for 6 months and is "Broken in" and although it has the shortest shift out there, I think its really stiff.
