I had the same problem with mine...cept it ran out of gas! My car doesn't have one of those nifty "low fuel" lights...... 
Weird thing is my gas guage was around 1/4 of a tank when it died.

is your check engine light on my car did the same thing.... but snaped one of the timming chains so check for codes.....if you get the one for camshaft position sensor.....sorry

well when it happend to me i snaped a timming chain broke all the rockers on that side, you can rebuild but for me it was to much risk (who knows how much metal is in the engine) so i bought a new engine with warrenty.... so did you have that code..... if so take the timming chain cover off.... when you start it and get it running it dies unles you keep it at 3k????
