Engine cranks
It seems random to me. I've found that if I haven't started it in a few days, or am starting it at full temperature, if I turn the key to on, wait 3-4 seconds for the fuel pump to cycle off... turn the key off, then back to on, wait 3-4 more seconds for the pump to finish cycling, then start it, it'll almost always start right away. Any other time, just out of habit, I leave the key at on for 3-4 seconds before attempting to start it.

Any reason for the 6-8, or is it just random?

I've got an 02 GT and on the average its about the same as yours, but every once in a while it takes 6-8.

SEAFOAM!!! I had the same problem starting up and then my buddy took me to his jify lube and ran some seafoam through the motor. It smoked like a sum bitch for a while but now it starts up with ease, which makes my starter alot happier.
