could the PCV system cause my oil consumption?
Hey all~
Some of you may have read my posts regarding my car burning oil. It's just getting very very perplexing as to why it's burning it. The car runs smooth as glass, the compression is good, has strong vacuum, etc etc. No signs of burning, no smoke and no fouled plugs.
I talked to a tech at work and he said check the PCV, sometimes the hoses collapse. Well I had a look and there are no real hoses to collapse, but I took everything off. Well on the inside of the pcv valve, and all the hoses they are full of engine oil. Obviously this oil is being pulled in and burned. I just replaced the PCV valve with one from autozone, brand new, thinking it would help the oil situation. Should I put the old one back in or grab one from the dealer on monday?
I'm trying to figure out why there would be so much oil coming through the PCV system.
I pulled the valve out while it's running and put my finger on the tip, and it has strong vacuum. I took off the oil cap and there is no pressure or vacuum coming from the crankcase.
Any ideas lemme know

RE: could the PCV system cause my oil consumption?
With the PCV valve out, what can you see? I assume that the 'stang is like other cars in that there should be a sheet of metal under it - not completely blocking flow - it should be open on one or two sides. That's to prevent oil from easily splashing up there.
With the car running, can you see oil in the hole? (You might want to plug the vacuum hose with it off while you check, or it'll run like crap)

did you fix it or never get around to it?
I'm gonna see what I can put inline with the PCV to possibly remedy this, like an extra screen or something
