i overheated my car , thing is knockin sounds like its coming from the crank ,has this happened to any body in a 4.6 or think u know what the knock is i really dont feel like pulling the motor

 

knocking sound is probably detonation, caused by the overheating. how did you overheat it, were you just driving around or racing? im guessing you already run 93 octane with a supercharger. this could be a serious problem if it continues, but it could have been temporary due to the overheated condition. hopefully no real damage occured.

 

Hmmm, overheating wouldn't really cause something in the crank to come apart. If the something in the rotating assembly is indeed the problem, it probably happened while you were running the engine hard and then it overheated. I had a friend who spun a bearing while trying to go fast.

 

well i was doin a burnout for like 5 mins at 6500 rpm once i got done and pulled over to change the popped tire there was coolant all over my motor i checked the guage it was pegged but it want knockin yet. so 1 hour later i went to leave and get on the highway the guage started getting higher and then it started to knock and the knock just kept gettinglouder *** the guage went up

 

Wait, let me get this straight...you did a 5 minute constant burnout at 6500rpm? Dude the redline is at 5700, you probably damaged the internals being that you were probably bouncing off the revlimiter.

 

i have my rev limiter set at 7 000 with a stock block thing has held up pretty good but it didnt start knockin right after the burnout it happened about a hour later on the highway when it over heated and just started knockin

get an autometer water temp gauge you cant trust the stock gauge
