Need help diagnosing an engine knock.
I got a 4.6 that got a big drink of H2O during this recent series of downpours. Coming out there was the most wonderfull knock from the left rear of the engine. A buddy of mine swears it sounds like a bent valve and that it sucks but its not a big deal. I think he's nuts and I'm screwed. Bent valve seems like BS, but I'm no expert, and no matter what he says I don't think he is either. Regardless, its a slow rythmic knock in time to the RPM and seems to be coming from one of the last cylinders or the left. Any ideas? Mr. questionablewrench also says it can be fixed without pulling the mill but that I find a bit far fetched, so if you've got any ideas pass it along. I'm a competant wrench, but I'm used to old rides. Last car I built was a 69, so this new stuff freaks me out. Thanks in advace for any help!

RE: Need help diagnosing an engine knock.
I have a problem like that with my mustang, its making a ticking noise from the engine, someone told me it is a cracked wrist pin...it still runs strong just sounds like **** till i get it fixed. It happens 2nd to 4th gear at like 2 1/2-4rpms. Anyone know what this could be also?

To help diagnose yourself without taking anything off, take a long screw driver, hold it to the valve covers above your plugs and stick your ear to the handle, you'll be able to detect where the knock is.
