Default Help with heater core/manifold confusion!

i have read countless posts about heater cores and manifolds. my problem is that i don't know exactly what is wrong with my mustang. i had the fogging windshield. smell of antifreeze on the inside and outside of car. loss of antifreeze. but none leaking inside car. exhaust has white smoke upon startup. noticed antifreeze dripping rapidly from a port (?) on the firewall on passenger side under the hood. SOMEBODY HELP! suppossed to be in a carshow on aug. 26. need to fix asap. thanks.

Sounds like you may have compound issues..

Normally, white smoke on start up could be confused w/ a head gasket, but in actuality, it may only be condensation in your exhaust...

You say you get foggy windows, and smell of coolant.. How quickly is the coolant escaping your car??

Have you overheated your car recently?? Does the Heat work in your car at all? Do you smell more coolant when the heat is on??

So many questions.. We'll start w/ those..

I just had to replace the heater core in my dad's '97 Cougar V8. It just let go one day and developed a crack, started leaking antifreeze into his HVAC system and eventually started dripping out onto his feet! It was kind of a pain replacing it because the dash had to come out, but one of the biggest pains in the *** was getting the lines hooked up from the engine to the two ports on the core where it sticks out of the firewall.

But yea sometimes they just develop little cracks in the aluminum and start leaking. Not fun.

i lose coolant pretty fast. my car doesn't overheat at all. and yes my heat still works alittle. but i did unhook the heater hoses from under the hood and hooked them together and i haven't lost anymore coolant but my coolant light still comes on when i get on it.
