Default '03/'04 COBRA MOTOR W/Auto OR DROP TOP?

Was the Cobra motor in the '03/'04's offered with an automatic or in drop tops? Would one bolt to my '99's automatic tranny? If possible what would be needed besides the ECM?
I have done the BBK CAI(waste of cash as the steel piping gets so hot the stock set-up probably sent cooler air into the motor!
Predator tuner and 4.10's. Still have an exhaust to have installed but even with that and UDP's and a C&L plenum a flat 14 on street tires is about I can expect. Not looking for 11's but it sems without a S/C on the 4.6 that there is a big discrepancy between NA and S/C times. No middle ground. I suppose Cobra motors are quite rare in yards and even if there was one available it would be big bucks. Anyone ever found one? Anyone put one in front of an automatic? Just thinking which can be dangerous, Mark

What is the T3560? A manual transmission? Are you saying that the '03's had a Windsor block and not the modular that my '99 has?
I have a friend who owns a yard so I will contact him and see what's available for Cobra motors and what one might cost.
How about the 5.4? The extra 50 cubic inches or so should add 35 HP as is and with a rebuild should be more like 75-100HP possibly gained.
I am not doing anything soon but I like my '99 GT drop top and if it had some additional power it could be a great all around ride. As stated I have the BBK CAI which will probably yield to the JLT as I have seen that the BBK could actually hurt power as it really adds warm air, not cool. Predator felt like it added power and the 4.10's gave the motor the ease of accelleration. I will note what the PYPES catted X-pipe and catback does for power. If the current motor could get to 300 crank HP I could be satisfied. Thanks, mark

The 3560 is a 5 speed manual. Ford quickly moved to a 6 speed manual box for the S/C Cobra. I don't believe the Cobra was offered with an auto. The modulars come in two versions: Romeo and Windsor, depending on which factory produced the block.

NO Cobra came with an automatic tranny, well not any Cobra from 93+. I would think you could drop in a Cobra motor on your auto tranny, but there would be some modifications involved. Why do you want an automatic 32v, well never mind the Mach 1 comes in auto.

Thanks for the info guys. Just imagining the possibilities here. a 14.000 is all the NA 4.6 is capable of it seems. I really like the Mustang but miss the power my turbo Talon had, high 11's at 120 traps.
Several back surgeries have made an automatic turn my driving experience much more enjoyable. Were the Mach's a 4v motor? What power did they make? I will do about every bolt on that is available for the 4.6 and qa 14.000 is probably the best it will do. I still enjoy the car but would like a 13.5 at least. I read where a guy with a Cobra and 4.56's did a 12.8 on bad street tires before he went back to a Talon. Cobra motor could be almost impossible to find and then may be priced at an oputrageous price anyways. I like the auto and drop top but wqould like some decent power. Mark

Mach 1 is a 4v motor. Not sure the numbers but I think they are close to the 300hp mark 320 torque if I'm not mistaken.. Im probrably off though.

I've heard of people using the Flywheel from a Lincoln's auto tranny, onto the Cobra crank, and it worked well.. You just have to change out/add a few things such as:

- Wiring harness for the Tranny
- Pedal Assy
- Shifter Assy
- Driveshaft w/ associated slip yolk
- Tranny mount
- Metal lines from tranny to tranny cooler
- Torque Converter

I think that almost covers it, besides other small incidentals, such as Tranny fluid and some hardware. You'll probably have to create holes for the tranny mount on the subframe.

I think the Starter is the same, so that shouldn't be an issue..

Hope that helps..

Here's the problem.. I used to own a Talon too.. I didn't do a lot of initial work to it, just a lot of replacing stuff. Problem is, w/ a little bit of practice, ANYONE can get 1.8 60fts, and get mid to low 13's because of it..

If you try launching a biased car, such as a Cobra, which is RWD, and has more than it's share of HP/TQ, you'll find it actually takes a little skill.. The guy w/ the Cobra that only landed 12.8 sucks at life, if that's ALL he could muster w/ his Cobra and those gears.. Of course he's limited on the fact that Street Tires suck when you get over, oh, say, 150hp, but it takes some practice..

A lot of people just want to jump in a car, and be able to pull 12's.. I wish it worked that way.. I, like many others here, have a lot of time at the track.. I've gone through engines, trannies, suspension, cars, etc...

Too many misconception these days that a lot of people put faith in.. W/ all Bolt-Ons, it's been proven that most beginner to intermediate folks can pull close to 12's, W/O a Power Adder!!
