Hi,

I bought my car about a year ago, it's a 1998 Mustang GT 5spd. It seem like any normal stang, except that from the factory it has a stripe kit, and different wheels. I looked up some info about it (which was hardly any) and it said my car is the "sport group edition". does anyone have any info about whats so special about my car? i looked many places to find info, but no luck yet... here are some pics, not very good, but thats all i have. there is also one in my signature.

heres a pic of the wheels, they are like tha 96 or 97 cobra's, but not polished, and the lugs dont show, there is a cap covering the lugs with a mustang on it

I have no idea. I bought some 94 cobra wheels for my car that look kina like those.

Take some underhood pictures too..

thanks, the wheels are similar to the cobra's, jus not polished and have a cap over the lugs.. under the hood is the same as any 4.6, i don't see any differences...

It is not a GTS. Use your vin number to enter it into carfax. See what is says there. you can enter the vin for free there.

ok thanks. so by entering my vin on carfax, it's gonna tell me what all is included in the "sport group edition" and how many were produced and stuff like that?
i'd like to see how many were produced, because i've only seen one with the same factory options (stripe kit, and wheels)

I hate to differ with you on this point but the GTS sometimes does have a wing. My 96 is a GTS but they did not call them that in 96 they started calling it the 248A option package. My insurance card still reads GTS and I have a wing. Other than that it is the usual 248A suspect with no extras ie no foglights, cruise, power anything. It doesnt even have an inside trunk release. We were adding it up and the GTS weighs about 450 pounds less than a GT of the same year. It does make a difference.

so mine is a GTS? i ran a carfax and it only gave me details about the cars history, as in reports or accidents, stuff like that. I'm trying to learn what makes the GTS different from a GT..

The GTS or 248A option group was the racer's or poor man's GT depending on how you look at it. They did not receive power seats, door locks, or windows. Nothing shocks people like getting in my 96 and having to use a window crank. They did not receive the fog lights, cruise control or any other luxury items. Most GTS's do not have the wing but it could be ordered or a dealer addon. The weight difference will make it a little quicker than it's brother the fully dressed GT. Ford no longer offers these options so if you have one hang on to it. They were called 5.0 LX in the fox body days.

i'm sooo confused now, i have all power options on my 98, but i have the rims and stripe kit like the GTS.. could those power options have been ordered from the factory along with the stripe kit and wheels?
