Rear end noise
When driving I have been hearing a whining noise coming from the rear end.I'm guessing that the 4.30 gears I had put in a few months ago are on their way out due to improper installation. The noise is most noticable around 55 mph at a steady speed,it goes away when I let off and when I get on it harder. What is the cause of this noise and how long will they last like this, since I can't afford to get them fixed right now and I'm not taking it back to where I got them put in.Would it just be best to park the car untill I cough up enough money to get it fixed?
did you put the ford additive in it?...mine did the same thing a few months after i change the diff fluid...needless t say i didnt put the additive in it.....i went to ford and bought a bottle of it and some diff fluid and it was back to normal
mine made the same noise after I installed my gears but that was like 5 years ago. I am not telling you what to do with yours but mine still runs fine and if they ever go out I will just replace the rear end.
Yeah it could just be your diff bearing. If your backlash was done incorreclty im guessing it would have made a howling noise right off the bat but if it just started making noise that it probably is just a bearing.
I've always had gear noise when I go to a higher gear ratio.. Maybe it's the install, but I've never had a problem w/ the gears.. You may want to pull the cover off and check for scoring, or burrs on your gears...
Friction modifier is used to make the LSD work better, not so much for whirring or bearing wear..
