I changed out my stock pump with a high pressure Walbro 255lph pump. It ran ok with the stock regulator but I did notice the exhaust smell at idle was pretty rich. A supercharger is pretty forgiving with a rich mixture. When I added a Kirban regulator and set PSI at 40 I've noticed a big change in fuel consumption. That helped a lot. I highly recommend using an adjustable regulator with the 255 pump. Also I think the 255 pump is quieter than the stock one. That was a surprise.

so would i need to put a better rugulator in at the same time, or can that wait for this weekend? in other words is the car going to run bad w/out the better regulator?

Your car should run ok with the stock regulator but just remember that it will most likely not hold the stock pressure setting. That will cause you to run a little rich. Once you're able to run an adjustable regulator you'll be able to pull the pressure back to your original setting and keep it there. That pump is a pain to change out and I would go 255 and be done with it. You don't want to have to upgrade it later for sure.
