i cruise around town in fifth at like 35 to 40 and it is at like 1200 i use fifth a lot

go with 4.10s you will regret not getting them.
thats crazy. 5th gear going 35mph? I have to go over 65 to go in 5th otherwise with my O/R X it sounds like a boat and the car falls flat on its face. What do you skip shift too?

4.10s are not what eats up your gas its your right foot. Drive it like a daily driver and there will be no problem. If you get the 3.73 or the 3.90s you will kick yourself later.

3.73 are the only way to go if it is a daily driver. If you like shifting alot then go with the 4.10. I used to have 4.10's I loved them until I went with 3.73 and the ep diff.

you do some of you recommend 4:56 when you dont even have them.
half the people here are always at the track. which would be the reason they have 4.10s
if you never going to the track that much then dont get the 4.10s especially if your not going to be NA. they will just destory your top end which is no fun on the street and traction will suck on street tires which also isnt any fun.

Right now Im enjoying having stock gears in my car because im still beating cars with the same mods and 4.10s because they just have no top end. But eventually I will have 3.73s

I do mnot track my car. It's an automatic convertible and I have 4.10's. Top end in 4th(OD) is 150MPH. I don't do that either. How much top end do you want? If cruising at 75-80 is 5800-5900 then double that and that would be 5600-5800rpm's. Double the speed and top end is 160mph. I did 136 a couple of times and it's not a smart thing to do on public highways. With the 4.10's and strictly interstate driving at 70-75mph I get around 22-23mpg. Average combined city and rural where I live and there is a stop sign every mile to 5 miles I get 17+mpg.
The difference between 3.73's and 3.90's is almost nothing. 3.7D are like having 2.61 gears. 3.90's in OD or 5th in a stick is about like having 2.73 gears. So would you rather have 2.61's or 2.73's? OH! My 4.10's are like having 2.87's. If you are limiting the choice to 3.73's and 3.90's flip a coin as rpm wise in top gear the difference is minimal. I could have gone 4.30's and seen minimal difference on the highway. 4.56's are a bit much IMHO. Mark

then your running into people who cant drive for ****, 4.56s are a bit to much but the 4.6s are modular motors, free reving motors, so they need 4.10s, as for no top end, bull****, gears make your top end come up faster and increase your acceleration and your top speed, as for milage, my buddy was gettin 21 mpg in a 99 GT, that means T-45 tranyy

I orginally had Motive 3.90's installed and they whined bad. Most likely that was due to the installer, but several people with experience told me that the 3.90's are a bitch to install properly. In any event, the gearing was ok, but not enough for me. I dumped them for 4.10's and it was the best thing I ever did. And yes I have a Vortech. The 4.10's get me into boost that much quicker, which in my opinion is a good thing. Unless you plan on going with a positive displacement blower down the road, I'd go with 4.10's, but if you are dead set against them I'd go 3.90's. 3.73 wouldn't even be an option if I were you.

I have Motive 3.90's (that don't whine) haha... I drive on the highway a lot, as does my stepbrother (who has 4.10's) and my good friend that had 3.73's in his mustang. I can tell you that the reason i went with 3.90's is because i wasn't sure whether to go as steep as 4.10's. I can say that if i was staying N/A i'd probably get 4.30's. There isn't much of a differance between 4.10 and 3.90, there is between 3.73 and 3.90. The biggest thing that i've noticed against my stepbrothers car, is that mine pulls more in 4th gear - he still pulls nice in 4th, but mine does better - dont know if that has to do with the differance in tune, or the actual gears - but that's what happens (and we both had equal mods) - he's only out of first gear a step faster then me... I would actually say that 4.10's shouldn't be the option... imo, if you're going to be going boost get the 3.90's, boost + nitrous maybe sometlhing like 3.55 or 3.73 - and if you're staying n/a leapfrog the 4.10s and go 4.30 - gas milage isn't going to make a huge differance. I am a full bolton with gearing, and I can say that I have lost really 1mpg since i was stock.

I don't know why people knock the Motive gear... but it's a nice go between - mine have held up fine without any problems, or whine. I will say though if i had the change to go FRPP I would have, but they don't make this gear.
