i had straight pipes on my car when i first got it, from the previous owner, and at first it sounded cool, but after a while it got annoying, it would pop and crackle at 3000 rpm's, and it was really high pitched, no throatiness to it at all. plus with no back pressure it screwed with the o2 sensors and made my engine light come on everynow and then

Dude. Straight pipes sound gay and annoying. One of my buddies did it on hiw roush. No cats. No mufflers. It wasnt that fast (becuase it was a fat roush) but it was so loud you had to roll up the windows when you were next to him. We all hated cruising with him. I use to worry about him not having any back pressure but once i saw how insainely ristrictive the stock exhaust manifolds are on mustangs i changed my mind!

Ur engine light just probably came on becuase you had no cats and your rear o2 sensors were mad about that. Yeah straight pipes rattles everything loose in your car. It sucks.
