Default Milage over 100,000 miles

Ok, I got a question for you guys. At what milage (depending on how well you take care of your car) do you think '94-'99 mustangs start to go downhill? I'm looking at a '98 Mustang GT with 127,000 miles on it, and I'm wondering if it's worth it to get it with that many miles, or if I should just keep looking. My dad and I together know just about everything about cars, so taking care of it if it has any issues isn't a problem at all (he drives a '96 intrepid with 180,000 miles on it and it's in great condition).

MY old 97 GT had 125,000 miles on it when I wrecked it and it ran great. Always ran mobil 1 10w-30. I raced it all the time with no problems. Ended up breaking the suspension before the motor. My 03 GT now has 100,000 on it LOL cause my last job I had to drive 100+ miles a day. Ive had this car pretty much since it was new and have changed the oil every 3,000 miles with stock motorcraft 5w-20. It runs better than new and takes spray like a champ. I also know that F/I motors have a shorter lifespan, so I have another motor waiting for transplant if/when this one quits on me. You can find stock 99-04 GT motors for cheap. I got mine w/45,000 miles on it for $500. They range from 500-1500 used and 2600 rebuilt. You can prolly get a motor swapped in the car for $700-1000 dollars if you look around. So total you will expect to pay around $2000 for a low mileage PI motor swapped in your mustang. Go ahead and buy it if you are able to afford a swap in the near future. I definately want to try and get my motor swapped around 150-175,000 miles. Id say the motor would start gettting loose feeling on me then. As long as theres no smoke or oil leaking, do it!

I'm not sure what the price is. My dad called and I think it's at a dealership. There was something written on a piece of paper in my kitchen that looked like 7K, so that might be it (which I think is way too much for a mustang with that many miles).

Yea thats too much for 127k miles. Talk them down or find yourself a better deal. If you buy an NPI GT, after a little while you're gonna start lookin' at droppin some more money on a PI swap or somethin better. At least I did.

It may end up bieng cheaper in the longrun to buy a used 99 GT for around $10k unless you just like that 98 bodystyle....

I personally don't care for the 98 bodystyle, but I really don't have the money right now for anything more expensive.

What do you think would be a good price for a 98 GT with 127,000 miles (it has cloth seats)?

you wont find anything for less than $5-7k thats just how it is nowadays. Years ago you could find a good car for 2-3 thousand....

Umm..........this guy that said F/I motors have less life span??? If he was referring to Fuel injection motors, then hes talking out his ***. They say Fuel injection motors will last twice that of any carburated or non-computer controlled motors. They last longer because evry cylinder runs almost perfect leaniency everytime therefore causing less damage to the cylinders, and less overheating. ANY MUSTANG WITH OVER 100KMI IS BEAT TO SH.IT. Unless the guy tells you his grandmother drove it back and forth to the store for the past 30 years when the car is only 9 years old!.lol The bodies get warped, the suspensions need work, the driveline gets run down because most abuse and neglect while beating the **** out of them. The timing chain needs to be replaced at 100kmi. Not an easy task, Wheel bearings start to fail and also the ball joints will be close to overdue, the clutch will be toast or the auo will need to be flushed, you name it... Unless the car is spic and span don't buy only for $3,000. I bought my '97GT from the origional owner all stock with 64,000 mint condition this year for $5600. Black leather, 5 speed, 17" cobra upgrade OEM wheels which will be for sale in the next few days for like $600 w/new goodyears. Keep looking they are out there. I just looked at one the other day. Private sale 1998 GT white black leather 5 spd. 53kmi $6200 in albany
