fuel pump cut-off switch : defective????
I have a 97' 4.6 Mustang and twice car has stopped running due to (I think) fuel pump cut-off in the trunk. First time on lunch hr going back to work she just quit running. The cut-off was first thing I checked in trunk but the button on the cut-off had not popped off. Had it topwed and the mechanic told me he just tapped on the cut-off switch housing and popped the cutoff-switch and then reset it, started the car and it ran about 6 days before same thing happened again. This time it would not re-start till I let it sit overnite..Has anyone had this happen??? Is it the switch??? Any ideas or info??? I just don't want this to happen at an in opportune moment....Thanks in advance for any and all comments or suggestions..... ps. here's my 2 Mustangs. the green one almost killed me, I was run off the road by a stinkin drunk driver...but I showed him...he left me there to die but not only did I survive I ended up getting a much better and faster Stang!!!!!! black one is 97' Cobra<>teal one is 94' GT. thanks......

RE: fuel pump cut-off switch : defective????
I had a somewhat similar problem with my 98 GT. There was a very intermittent problem with the fuel pump. About once a month the car wouldn't start. Haven't had a problem since the pump was replaced. I would think there would be a way for you to check voltage passing through the switch, although I'm not sure and I couldn't give you instructions. You should be able to hear the fuel pump start up when you place the ignition switch in run. Listen at the fuel tank filler as someone else turns the ignition to run (not start). That really doesn't tell you if the switch is bad or the fuel pump is bad, but if you hear the pump start up and the car isn't starting, then it isn't your switch.
